A monumental financial commitment of over ₹1.25 lakh crore set to transform 2.80 lakh Gram Panchayats, ensuring seamless employment, worker welfare, and holistic rural growth from July 1, 2026.
In a major push to revitalize rural employment, safeguard workers' rights, and accelerate rural infrastructure, Union Minister for Rural Development, Agriculture, and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, chaired a high-level review meeting with State Rural Development Ministers via video conferencing today. The meeting focused on the strategic roadmap and operational readiness for implementing the groundbreaking ‘Viksit Bharat G RAM G’ initiative, launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Emphasizing a smooth transition to the new framework effective July 1, 2026, Union Minister Chouhan urged states to ensure a seamless, worker-centric shift without causing any disruption to rural employment or wage disbursements. Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Shri Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, also attended the meeting.
Addressing the ministers and senior officials, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted that the initiative represents much more than a routine administrative policy transition.
"This initiative is directly linked to the lives and livelihoods of crores of rural workers. Not a single worker should remain without employment even for a day. Any delay or hurdle in job provision, timely wage payments, or statutory entitlements will not be tolerated."
The Union Minister reassured that project identification and finalization will remain rooted in grassroot democracy, driven strictly through Gram Panchayats and Gram Sabhas. He urged states to issue advance approvals for development projects well ahead of July 1 to allow immediate execution on the ground.
To support robust asset creation and uninterrupted rural work, the Central Government has bolstered financial disbursements:
Prior Allocation: ₹30,000 crore under MGNREGA.
